The Last Chapter

I am on the last chapter of our book, “Social Media for Strategic Communication”. This chapter
discusses the current and future state of social media. It also gives additional information about
technology and social media related trends that are up and coming.

Voice search, like Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri, connects every aspect of our lives. From our
Pinterest page to our grocery list. Just by using your voice, you can directly get information from the
device. Voice search is a type of artificial intelligence that can impact our daily lives that is able to
integrate all parts of our contemporary lives. Advocacy marketing is another up and coming
technology. Advocacy marketing involves people who are willing to endorse brands without any
financial compensation that actual influencers usually require. They are part of the community and
believe in the brand so much that they are willing to put their name and reputation out there the
brand. Advocacy marketing is becoming more prevalent within the social media community.
Ephemeral content is a 24 hour mobile video that is presented on social media. Examples of these
videos include Snapchat and Facebook and Instagram stories. These types of videos drive high
engagement because of the known limit on the video. 

With all of these new types of technology and features on social media that have popped up in the
last couple years, I am very interested in what new features will come up next. Social media
platforms have to be constantly evolving into something new to compete with other platforms. I’m
sure this competitiveness with drive new technology and new social media features.
