Personal Brands
As a young professional, having a personal brand and social media presence is crucial. The way you
manage your personal brand is even more important. With any social media presence, you have the
power to influence people. Overall, you should demonstrate one main character on social media:
you. The goal is to show who you are as a person and as a professional.
Standing out on social media is very challenging when there are millions of people who participate in
it. There is a constant competition for views, likes, and mentions. When it comes to our professional
selves, you should find out how to be knowledgeable and unforgettable. Karen Freberg mentions in
“Social Media for Strategic Communication” there are three main components to include in your
personal brand. The first is personality. This is a given. You want to have people view you as unique
and therefore memorable. This shines through behavior, beliefs and attributes. Along with personality,
people are looking with consistency. Being consistent with your online personality is what creates your brand.
You should take time to think about how you want to present yourself if every post. And of course,
expertise and being knowledgeable of your profession is the last thing you need to create a personal
brand. This is where you present your role and prove yourself credible as a professional.

As a graphic designer, this is very important. When I was figuring out how to present myself online, it
took a lot longer than I thought to figure it out and to be honest, I am still figuring it out. I am figuring
out how I want to present myself online, physically, and verbally. I created a visual brand that I
thought represented my personality and a tone that seemed welcoming and knowledgeable. My
brand will always be flowing and changing, but I plan on being true to who I am personally and
professionally to be distinctive.
