Dog People
My family consists of seven people. It also consists of three cats and one dog, well until Saturday. You see, my family dog, who is named Maggie, is getting pretty old. The summer before seventh grade, I brought her home without permission. My best friend’s grandma found a litter of puppies that had been dumped on her street and she had one left when I had come over. I called my parents a few times to get their permission, but no one answered. With this, I took matters into my own hands and took her home. I walked into my house and my parents were very confused. Why did their daughter have a little white puppy in her hands and a big smile on her face? It didn’t take long for them to find out. My parents are animal people and frankly also pushovers when it comes to homeless animals (Maggie was not our last abandoned animal that I had brought home on a whim). Now that 10 years have gone by, Maggie is no longer the energetic puppy she once was. We worry about her often and avoid the idea of her being gone forever.
So what did my family decide to do about this? Well we got her a friend. Saturday morning my mom and youngest sister happened to pass a sponsored adoption event in my hometown. There were puppies galore. There were three litters that had been put up for adoption. While there, my mom FaceTimed the family to show us what they had found. Long story short, they ended up leaving the event puppy-less only for my dad to go an hour later to bring home a bulldog husky mix. Not only did we add a new pup to our family, my older sister decided to take one home too. Meet Ollie and Ryder:
Hello,
ReplyDeleteThey look like such cute puppies! I am definitely a dog person myself! I have a Puggle ( half pug, half beagle). His name is Oswald! He has been my childhood pet since age 6! He is an older guy now but he sure is a staple to our family! Congratulations on the two new family members!
Thanks for sharing the exciting news!

Alex,
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile from ear to ear, it's so exciting to add new pets to a family! Personally I'm more of a cat person (mine's name is Lola, and she's my favorite thing in the world), but I understand how much an animal can mean to you and your family. I hope the puppies adjust well to their new homes, and that you write about them again sometime as they get older!
Alex,
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends had a German Shepherd, Milo who was also slowing down because of his age and she used to worry a lot about her. One thing that we noticed was whenever I took my dog, Ginger over to her place he would get so excited and play with her for hours without getting tired. I hope the new addition to the family helps Maggie.
